David and Corey Menkes were high school friends who fell in love with each other and with cacao after a trip to St. Lucia in 2010. In 2014, David attended a cacao boot camp class in Oahu, Hawaii where he learned how to grow and cultivate cacao trees, ferment and dry the beans, and produce a high quality chocolate bar.
When he returned home to L.A., this Dreamworks Animation employee practiced his new skills in his home kitchen until his hobby turned into a new profession. In 2018, David and Corey opened a chocolate factory and retail shop.
Letterpress is among the 13 favorite USA craft chocolate producers recognized in Melissa Clark's February 2020 New York Times article for the extra attention their team devotes to sourcing beans, forging positive relationships with growers and treating the planet with extra loving care.

Exquisite, delightful and satisfying!

I loved this delicious piece! I tested it at one of Nadine’s tastings and literally put my hand to my heart with delight. It’s smooth and just the right amount of salt to compliment the chocolaty notes. I bought it straight away!
