These utterly delectable truffle-like confections of smooth and creamy chocolate and hazelnut paste are so dreamy and wonderful, and they are also dairy and gluten-free. It’s shocking that there is no heavy cream or dairy of any kind in them because they are so velvety. Imagine Nutella having a very fancy cousin formed into a soft, yet solid bite-sized piece of deliciousness.
Each individually wrapped dainty treat is handcrafted with a blend of Chuao cacao, considered one of the world’s finest and rarest beans from the cloud forest in the northern coastal range of Venezuela, and premium “tonda gentile Piedmontese hazelnuts. Expert chocolatier Guido Castagna calls these hazelnuts “Piedmont’s gold…absolutely the best in the world.” They have Protected Geographical Indication status which is a European designation created to preserve and protect regional food. Guido Castagna refers to his chocolate and hazelnut confections (also called gianduiotti) as “little jewels.” He has given them the name “Giuinott.”
Great skill and attention to detail are required to craft these voluptuous, melt-in-your-mouth delights. Castagna compares the handiwork involved to hand stitching in the sense that it is incredibly labor intensive and kind of a lost art to make them.
Take my advice: buy them and then hide them in a secret location or they’ll disappear before you can say Giuinott!
More advice…store your Giuinott in an airtight bag in your refrigerator and take them out about 20-30 minutes before savoring. Definitely eat them at room temperature for maximum enjoyment. Also, I will only ship these beauties when the temperature is 60 degrees Fahrenheit or below.
