Askinosie Chocolate


Amazing humans alert!!! Former criminal defense attorney (and beautiful, kind soul), Shawn Aksinosie felt depleted after 20 years of specializing in high-profile felony and murder cases. He was drawn to uplifting people, but also needed to fill his cup ASAP or risk burnout. He made the tough decision to close his law practice and volunteer in a hospital’s palliative care unit to gain some clarity. He also went on retreats at a Trappist monastery where after quiet reflection, he realized his true calling was to make chocolate from scratch.

In 2005 Shawn began his chocolate life in earnest by taking a master class on cacao and cacao agronomy in the Amazon rainforest. He proceeded to learn how to make bean-to-bar chocolate in Ecuador. In 2006 he opened his own craft chocolate factory in Springfield, Missouri where he works to this day with his partner and daughter, Lawren. Together with their wonderful team, they are laser focused on excellence, fairness, sustainability, minimal environmental impact, and community enhancement. I urge you to read his book, Meaningful Work, which is full of inspiration!
