“Astonishing” is the word that the Qantu chocolate makers use to describe this lovely, new dark milk chocolate bar. “Addictive” is the word that comes to my mind, but I see why they’re astonished by the synergy that results from pairing bright, elegant and slightly fruity Peruvian white cacao beans with sweet and silky Canadian milk. The flavors that unfold are both magnificent and slightly unexpected, which contribute to this chocolate’s addictive quality. This chocolate is so fine, so deliciously exquisite, that for me, the first piece typically leads to a second.

Deeply satisfying, this Qantu Oh La Vache! Dark Milk Chocolate Bar will give you something to ruminate over (no pun intended) as you savor. Chew on that, or rather, allow this dark milk chocolate to melt in your mouth and immerse yourself in a few moments of unadulterated bliss.

In the nose, you might notice dried fruit notes such as plum. As you taste the chocolate, honey, rich caramel and notes of golden raisin will reveal themselves on your palate. The finishing notes are moderately fruity and the mouthfeel is pure satin.

The owners and chocolate makers at Qantu are a husband and wife team. Maxime is a Montrealer and his wife, Elfi, is from Peru, where they met by chance as young travelers. After falling in love, they visited their first cacao plantation in 2014 and fell in love all over again, this time with bean to bar chocolate! Two years later they pursued their dream of crafting chocolate from fine flavor Peruvian beans. They selected the farmers with whom they wanted to partner, bought some chocolate-making equipment, and started racking up gold and silver medals a year later.

Elfi & Maxine - Qantu

Why the unusual name “Qantu” you may wonder? Qantu (pronounced ‘Kantu’) comes from the native Peruvian language, Quechua, and it is the national flower of Peru and Bolivia. A symbol of unity and hospitality, this flower embodies the values and sentiment that Maxime and Elfi infuse into their chocolate work.
