There are times when I’m in the mood for the sensation of a chocolate bar taking its sweet time to melt in my mouth, and then there are those moments that call for something creamy and dreamy straight out of the gate...or the jar, to be precise! When I have a hankering for a luscious chocolate hazelnut spread, I grab a spoon and my jar of Guido Gobino. There’s always one in my cabinet.
Guido Gobino Gianduja Chocolate Spread is comprised of fine cacao and 45% Piedmont PGI hazelnuts which are harvested from five select farms in the Langhe (a hilly subregion of Piedmont in northern Italy) between mid-August and mid-September.
The hazelnuts are dried post-harvest, and then lightly roasted at the company’s workshop in Torino. High quality hazelnut oil, rather than palm oil, is what makes this rich, velvety treat spreadable.
You might be wondering what PGI means when it comes to hazelnuts. It’s an acronym that stands for “Protected Geographic Indication,” and it distinguishes the hazelnuts as the best in the world! Their noble characteristics make them particularly well-suited for use in confections and patisserie. PGI hazelnuts possess superior fragrance and flavor that persist even after roasting.
I consider this jar one of life’s little luxuries. The gianduja is great on toast, pastries or fruit, and I maintain that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with dipping your spoon right in the jar! I also like to blend a generous spoonful into my banana “nice cream” for a decadent, addictive twist. Go ahead...treat yourself! You deserve it!
