When I host chocolate tastings, I always include Effie’s Homemade biscuits to pair with the bars I’ve selected. They are simply divine, and everyone…I mean EVERYONE wants to know more about the “little cookies.” I’ve had dozens of guests at my events asking me to stock them, and now they’re finally here in the shop! Also, these delicious, lightly sweet cookies make the most decadent S’mores! See for yourself!
Sweet southern pecans take center stage in these deliciously nutty biscuits. They’re buttery, crisp, and crafted with stone-ground whole wheat and just a touch of wildflower honey. These scrumptious cookies are beautiful with all the chocolates in the Barometer collection, but I personally adore them with a dark milk or a 70% dark chocolate. They also pair wonderfully well with cacao fruit jam! Another incredibly yummy pairing suggestion is to spread some Guido Gobino Gianduja (chocolate hazelnut spread) on top of your Effie’s. A nice soft and plump Medjool pitted date is also yummy atop one of these cookies with some Aged Gouda, or crumble them over your favorite ice cream for a truly delicious topping. There are so many amazing matches you can create, and all will delight your palate!

The first bite of an exquisite Effie’s biscuit is a moment of sheer delight. Lightly sweet and rich in flavor, with a satisfying and subtle note of salt in the finish, these goodies are more refined than a cookie and way more decadent than a graham cracker. They are prepared in small batches and baked in a similar fashion to pastry so that they are light, crisp and flaky with a delicate crumb.
The brand is named after the real Effie…Effie MacLellan from Nova Scotia, who moved to Dorchester, Massachusetts and took her famous, generations-old recipe with her as a way to make new friends quickly.
It worked! Whenever she baked these scrumptious little biscuits, word spread fast and all the neighborhood kids would come running for them when they were still warm from the oven and ready to share. Effie would carefully wrap them in napkins for the kids who were smiling from ear to ear in anticipation of this special treat.
Effie’s daughter Joan, and her best friend, Irene, culinary experts and teachers, launched the company Effie’s Homemade to keep these beautiful biscuits alive so that people like you and me, who appreciate savoring made-from-scratch baked goods, could enjoy them in a variety of scrumptious flavors. My two favorites are the pecan cookies and the cocoa cookies. Please enjoy them with your favorite chocolate and whatever other tasty morsels you like. They’re also gorgeous with fresh and dried fruits.
